Analysis of music videos - Pop

                                                           Camilla Cabello - Havanna

This music video is a narrative video as it is like a story. It is also a performance video as Camilla is lip syncing almost throughout the video and performing in the movie within the music video. Therefore we can call it a narrative/performance based video. This video features popular YouTubers/actors Lele Pons and LeJuan James. These cameos help engage with a wider audience. The themes for this video are glamour, retro, women, wealth, love and dance. Todorov's theory of equilibrium can be seen when Karla is watching the TV and it is suddenly turned off by her mother. The mother tells Karla to go dancing and at the end of the video she is dancing making the new equilibrium.

See You Again - Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth

See you again is an example of a narrative and performance music video. This video has an element of pop and rap which will attract a wider audience. This video uses cross media convergence and synergy to team up with the Fast and Furious franchise. This will appeal to a wider audience. This video is also a tribute to the late Paul Walker who passed away mid way through filming Fast and Furious 7. This video creates a sense of family through the use of Paul Walkers friends from the films. He managed to still make the film by CGI as shown in the last clip where the two cars separate and we hear "when I see you again." This symbolises Paul's passing but how he's not truly gone but waiting in heaven. This creates a meaning of warmth and family in the music video.

Billie Eilish - Therefore I am

This video is a performance music video and shows Billie Eilish going through an empty supermarket singing her song. She is able to record her music video in a supermarket with no distractions as she is a mainstream artist signed with Inter-scope records who supply her with the resources and money to have these opportunities. This video has a lot of camera movement, it is filmed by a handheld camera and after effects likes zooming have been added. The whole video seems like it is recorded in a 2 takes as the camera follows Billie throughout the store, but the editors have cut at specific points where the camera passes an object very close to it such as a drink dispenser. A cut is also very visible at the end of the video when Billie runs out the store with all the food she picked up along the way. This could be a mistake with the editors or a purposeful cut. This music video focuses on camera movement and editing more than other aspects like lighting.
