Analysis of music videos - Rock

 Brianstrom - Artic Monkeys

Brianstorm follows typical conventions of Rock music videos. The location of the video is a wide open room allowing the whole band to fit it. The video is a performance and concept video. The video features the band performing their song with many flashing lights and images to fit the upbeat song. It has a very stereotypical all male band with women dancing to their song. This follows Andrew Goodwins theory of stereotypes in the music industry. Another convention of rock music videos is focusing on the lyrics. This video does this in a very simple way by just adding in images of the word they say. For example when they say 'thunder' they show 2 quick images of lighting as thunder and lighting go together. The fast cuts, bright colours, quick editing and some handheld camera shots conveys the energy in this music video.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication

Fans of rock music would be the target audience for this video. This video contains scenes from video games, which appeals to viewers because it is not a frequent theme. The camera angles chosen provide the impression that the spectator is immersed in the video game. The video cuts from the video games scenes to the band when the fast-paced chorus plays, which is part of the rock genre. The Goodwin theory is demonstrated in this music video, which contains classic rock music video elements like as instruments, singing, and the appearance of tattoos and long hair to demonstrate the genre's eccentricity.
