Current trends in music

The current trends in music have adapted in recent times with the pandemic affecting many parts of the music and how music videos are produced.

The pandemic has led to many concerts being abandoned and many artists having to find alternative way to reach their audience. Artists haven done concerts in their homes on zoom calls and other platforms. They have adapted these into music and other products.

A current representation in music videos is objectification and sexualization. This trend is slowly changing with more people recognising its wrong but it is still imminent in many music videos. A big case of the objectification of women in male music videos is Robin Thicke's song 'Blurred Lines.' Although this song topped UK charts it was banned from YouTube after many negative reviews. The singer used naked female models to appeal to the male audience, otherwise known as 'The Male Gaze.' One part of the video has Robin Thicke pulling a girl by her ponytail which heavily objectifies women. Although there is much more objectification of women in music videos men can still be seen to be objectified in some videos. J-Lo's video 'I Luh Ya Papi' reversed the stereotypical roles with Lopez pouring champagne down a guy's swimming trunks.
